Reform the club
No one cares to join a club with no rules, free for anyone to do as it pleases him. The more exclusivist the club, the more sought after the membership. Even a snob could be useful in a select club sometimes, helps to enforce the rules with more zeal and, in time, could learn some things. An anarchist is not useful, would be a contradiction in terms.
US used to be one of these sought after clubs. The rewards of being considered as one of the members, even a junior one, compared to other clubs (read countries) were believed to be incentive enough that the membership applicants were inclined to bring something meaningful to the table: individual qualities, useful skills, a proper attitude.
Now US is a free for all outskirts’ dirty park, where no one bothers to clean the mess after the waves of careless uncouth littering it, left and right.
Not only you’re not requested to wear a tie, there’s no doorman, worse, the door was smashed away.
US never was the land of unfiltered immigration. Now it is. Those coming from desperation, unskilled, were kept under observation, socially, economically restricted, but not denied improvement in status. Now those expecting to benefit from their well deserved status are dragged down in a whirlwind of allowed chaos.
The club is broken. Unless a drastic reform happens, throwing out the leadership, cleaning the roster, fencing the property, filtering the attendance for guests, maintaining a level of decorum, the club could very well dissolve itself, it is not worth to apply for anymore. Down to earth doesn’t have to be the same with stuck to living in dirt.
