Autumn theme: fig leaves and false hopes
Licking my wounds and humbly holding my tail between the legs, I decided to keep away from predictions for a while, unless, of course, tomorrow or the day after, the situation dramatically changes and allows me to trumpet triumphantly my prescient ‘I told you so!’. Probably won’t happen.
So I stick to the present.
A juicy, though a tad bitter, bite from the present:
The operation is “illegal, unjustifiable and unacceptable” - French FM tells us.
“I would like to emphasize that we hold Azerbaijan responsible for the fate of Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh” - same little emperor’s FM.
Followed instantly by a big slap on the face of the former glorious empire and former leading country in the art of diplomacy: "The stance of France demonstrates that it refuses to learn from the current situation in the colonial regions that it faces today and continues its previous behavior and policy in this regard," - statement by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
French officials are even more active in anti-Azerbaijani statements and initiatives than Armenia, it asserted, adding that the "Islamophobic and anti-Azerbaijani policy of France, as well as its unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan, clearly demonstrates that the farther France is from the region, the better it will be."
Ouch !
France was all mouth and no action for some time, including with regard to Armenia, but now it became a subject of open mockery. Must be painful.
The chattering class in France managed somehow to project an image of a France who has Armenia’s back. Empty talk. Now that is obvious France can’t defend its own interests, when some obscure character, who crawled into the position once held by a Talleyrand, yaps gunboat diplomacy type threats in the name of France, without any gunboat on the horizon, you can bet she will hurt more those who pretends to protect.
Again and again, allowing rich fat cats in the diaspora to gain a disproportionate influence on your country’s affairs, on the false assumption they could pull strings and bring along a big dog to save your ass, proves disastrous. Especially when the big dog is a neutered, neurotic, little mutt.
Having faith in the supposed guarantees of a failed power…
Yea, still talking about France, what did you think !?
